Understanding the Community
As a professional educator, it is important to understand the community that surrounds our school. Students and teachers can greatly benefit from the services provided by the community. It is part of our job as a teacher to know what kind of services are available in our community and to reach out to these businesses and organizations.
Community Outreach Programs, School-Community Partnerships, and Community Liaisons are great ways to get the community involved in the school. There are many people of expertise that exists in the community. Many schools fail to use these extremely valuable resources. Research the community that your school is in to determine what services are available to help the students' reach their highest potential. Schools must realize that in order to receive, they must give. Schools can give back to the community by holding Family Fun Nights, Talent Shows, food drives, etc.
